High Tide

24" x 36"

Back in Liberia, we used to hunt for agates near ELWA Beach. Up near my house, outside of the protective rock reef, we called it "the washing machine" because the waves would pick us up and flip us around with great force. We weren't supposed to swim there, because we heard stories of somebody breaking their neck. But that was where the best agates were.

Low Tide. 40" x 30", acrylic on canvas
At Christmastime in Liberia, we had the lowest tides of the year. We'd climb out on the exposed reef and search the tide pools for treasures from the Atlantic Ocean. Sea slugs. Brittle stars. Cowries. Sea urchins. Blue devils.
