Sunset Over The Sawtooth Mountains

Tonight we went out to the end of Artist's Point in Grand Marais for a wedding. The sun was setting over the Sawtooth Mountains to the west, the moon was rising to the east, the Hjordis was sailing by, and the waves were crashing against the rock. It was a beautiful evening.

The Breakwall in Grand Marais

All summer long, people walk or bike out to the lighthouse. It's fun, and looks festive. They take kids and dogs out there, and some people like to jump off into the lake.

Winter Lighthouse

Morning Lighthouse

Every morning when I head down the hill into town, the harbor looks different, and it's always beautiful. I never get tired of it.

Entering Grand Marais Harbor

These boats were so pretty, it looked like they were racing back into the harbor.

This is the view looking west from Grand Marais.

Harbor, forest fire

When there are forest fires going on, we get colorful skies.

Dog's Feet Move By Slow

I hung 13 paintings at the Coho Cafe in Tofte last weekend. Now I need to get a collection ready to hang at The Wild Onion in Grand Marais. I can hang much bigger pieces at the Onion, and that show will go up very soon.

Flash Meridian - rerun

In about 2000, I started writing an online sci-fi story called THE ADVENTURES OF FLASH MERIDIAN. I'm gearing up to re-publish the project at FLASH MERIDIAN. Anyway, in looking through all those old files, I came across another picture of Heather's 1961 Valiant, "Houston." The car played the part of Celeste Vela (Heather)'s spaceship.

Coho Cafe

This morning I hung my show of paintings at the Coho Cafe in Tofte, MN. I forgot to take my camera with me, so I'll have to post pictures later. After hanging the show, I rushed back to Grand Marais to work at the Co Op. Long day. Now I'm off to another night doing the play.

I have two pieces of artwork on wtip.org

Greg emailed me this picture that was taken at his wedding.

Heather's 1961 Plymouth Valiant

A while ago, I made a posting called "I let Heather drive my car" and in it, I referred to her '61 Valiant, "Houston." Here's a picture of it behind my 1962 Chrysler (they would never have seen us coming!) Heather has a lot more pictures of the car - she even had her Senior portraits taken with it.

Hope

White is not surrender, despite what you've been told. It's clouds of hope.

Play opening this Thursday

The Grand Marais Playhouse offers one more production of the summer season and it's hilarious! "Don't Dress for Dinner," by Marc Camoletti, adapted by Robin Hawdon, opens this week at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts. Performances are August 21-24 and 28-31, Thursdays through Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 under 18. Advance sales available on-line at www.grandmaraisplayhouse.com. Box office opens one hour before each performance. All seating general admission, doors open 30 minutes before curtain. Sunday, August 24 is Donation Day.

"Don't Dress for Dinner" is a farce of mixed-up characters, too many stories and fast thinking. This fast-paced comedy begins with Bernard inviting his mistress for the weekend as his wife is visiting her mother. He also invites his best buddy, Robert, as an alibi. Little did he know his wife was having an affair as well... with Robert so she decides to stay home. Add a creative and enterprising cook who assists with the deceit by playing multiple characters, the mistress who must know play the cook, the cook's angry husband who shows up very confused, and you have the recipe for some great laughs.

The cast includes Kurt Anderson, Jane Burke, Erin Larsen, Joe Kunze, Beth Tidwell, and Tim Young. Directed by Elsa Cornell. This play is very funny and contains mature themes that may not be appropriate for all audiences.

Party

Last night we had a little get together regarding my leaving the Co Op. I guess it was a celebration. I enjoyed working there, and am proud of the work I did and what I accomplished, and am also happy to be moving on to other things.

Are You A Dreamer?

This is another of those "word paintings." I was listening to Denison Witmer's song with the same title when I started painting this.
